RICHWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Monongahela National Forest officials are excited to announce that road improvements in the Cranberry area are coming soon! Visitors should expect some disruptions and short-term road closures while workers secure safer, smoother access to this special area.
Projects include:
- Forest Road 76 (Cranberry Road), between its junction with Forest Road 99 and Woodbine Picnic Area, will be closed to collect design data for repairing a land slide near Barrenshe Run. This closure is expected to begin in early April and last approximately two or three weeks.
- Forest Road 81 (Coe Road), between its junction with Forest Road 101 (near Bishop Knob Campground) and Forest Road 76 (near Big Rock Campground), will be closed for several days to replace a large culvert. This closure is expected to begin in late April or early May once work on Forest Road 76 near Barrenshe Run has been completed.
- Forest Road 76 (Cranberry Road), on the non-motorized section about 5 miles downstream of Cranberry Campground, will be closed to collect design data for repairing the slide between Big Rough Run and Little Rough Run. This closure will begin in late April or early May and will last two or three weeks. Limited access through the work area will be maintained for pedestrians, equestrians, and bicyclists during construction activities at this location. Expect delays.
Signs will be posted at major road intersections alerting motorists of closures and detours once work on that segment begins.
