CABIN CREEK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A mother has been arrested after her child was found walking on the street alone with no socks or shoes causing her feet to burn.
According to a criminal complaint, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, a trooper with the West Virginia State Police responded to James River Road in Cabin Creek in reference to a welfare check.
While en route, the trooper was notified that there was a 4 or 5-year-old girl found walking alone on the street with no shoes, socks, or adults.
The individual who reported the incident had his granddaughters with him and brought the girl onto his porch due to the pavement burning her feet.
The trooper made contact with the individual who said he noticed the girl walking with no shoes, a full diaper, and no adults so he brought her to the porch to wait on law enforcement.
The individual stated that the girl’s feet were burning due to the hot asphalt. The temperature was 85 degrees at the time.
The trooper attempted to speak with the girl, but she was unable to speak.
The individual told the trooper the name of who he believed to be the mother.
The trooper then went to the residence in an attempt to find the mother. EMS arrived on the scene at this time.
Upon arrival, the trooper made contact with the victim’s mother, 23-year-old India Lyles.
The trooper asked Lyles if she had a daughter around 4 or 5 years old and Lyles confirmed she did.
Lyles was asked where the child was and she stated that she did not know and that she had fallen asleep.
Lyles told police that she had not seen her child for nearly two hours before the incident.
She was arrested and charged with Child Neglect. Lyles is currently at South Central Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
