BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The fourth Annual Bill Withers Music Festival will be held next week at the Bill Withers Plaza atop the Beckley Intermodal Gateway.
The festival, returning in its fourth iteration this year, will see the West Virginia music legend celebrated with vendors, booths, activities, and of course music.
Featured as part of the proceedings will be eight musical acts who have been inspired by the timeless work of Withers. These artists will perform renditions of Withers’ songs as well as other music.
New Hope Baptist Youth will perform from noon to 12:10pm, followed by a performance from HGTA Theatre Group from 12:15pm to 12:45pm.
New Gospel Singaleers will follow, performing from 12:50pm to 1:10, and Jim Snyder will play from 1:30pm to 2:00pm.
Lady D & MI$$ION will take the stage from 2:30pm to 3:10pm, followed by Creek Don’t Rise from 3:30pm to 4:00pm and Untrained Professionals, who will perform from 4:00pm to 4:20pm. Finally, Aristotle Jones will perform from 4:20pm to 5:00pm.
Recognized during the event will be the winners of the Lovely Day Youth Art, Music & Essay/Poetry Contest, who will be presented with awards at 1:00pm.
The Bill Withers Committee has also announced that the funding goal for the bronzing of the Bill Withers Statue has been reached and there are currently plans in place to have the statue installed at the plaza in the autumn months.
Community members and visitors alike are encouraged to attend the free community event, which celebrates the life and legacy of one of the Mountain State’s greatest musical exports, Grammy-winning Hall of Fame inductee, singer, and songwriter Bill Withers.
Bill Withers gained recognition for his performances of songs such as “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lean on Me,” and many others.
