CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man from Falling Waters has been taken into custody by investigators from the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office for allegedly starting a fire in a hotel room and also at his own home.
On June 23rd, firefighters were called to the Comfort Inn Hotel in Bedington, located on Edwin Miller Boulevard, in response to a reported fire. Upon arrival, they discovered a small fire in the bathroom of an occupied room, which they were able to extinguish, resulting in minimal damage to the structure.
Investigators from the WVSFMO spoke with the occupant of the room, 40-year-old Christopher Joseph Sterling Johnson of Falling Waters.
During questioning, Johnson confessed to setting the fire and revealed that he was staying at the hotel due to a previous fire at his own residence in May, which he also admitted to intentionally starting.
On July 2nd, the WVSFMO arrested Johnson on two counts of first-degree arson. He is currently being held at the Eastern Regional Jail on a bond of $107,500.00.
