WASHINGTON, DC (LOOTPRESS) – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) has introduced the bipartisan Fiscal State of the Nation Act.
The Act aims to provide lawmakers with current, nonpartisan data on the nation’s fiscal health. This would help them make informed, fiscally responsible, and economically sound decisions.
The legislation requires the Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to report on the fiscal state of the federal government annually before a joint session of Congress.
Senator Manchin emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the national debt is almost $35 trillion, equating to approximately $103,000 per American. He highlighted the importance of providing lawmakers and the public with accurate information about the country’s fiscal health.
Senators Mike Braun (R-IN), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), and Rick Scott (R-FL) joined Senator Manchin in introducing this legislation.
