FAIRLEA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Susie Johnson, owner of Almost Heaven Sunset Slush, has been a familiar face at the State Fair of West Virginia for the past decade.
Her business, known for offering what she calls the “finest and most flavorful Italian Ice in West Virginia,” has become a staple at local fairs and festivals across the state.
Almost Heaven Sunset Slush, which Johnson operates as an Independent Operator, traces its roots back to a family vacation.
“We started eating Sunset Slush when we visited Ocean Isle, North Carolina, just as guests down there,” Johnson explained. “We liked it so much, we asked about opening our own franchise. The product comes from Boston, where it’s homemade, and we’ve been doing this for ten years.”
Johnson, who has fond memories of attending the fair as a child, says that nostalgia and a love for the community keep her coming back each year.
“We’ve always grown up with the fair,” she said. “I remember coming here as a child, and it’s just the nostalgia of being at the fair. We just enjoy the people. I love to see the parents with their kids enjoying the rides together.”
The stand offers a wide selection of Italian Ice flavors, with about 28 of their 40 options available at the fair.
“It’s cool, it’s refreshing, it’s gluten-free, and it’s fat-free,” Johnson said, noting that she strives to keep prices affordable for families.
In addition to providing a refreshing treat, Johnson appreciates the opportunity to connect with fairgoers.
“We appreciate their business, we love chatting with people to figure out where they’re from and what they’re doing here,” she said. “We just enjoy what we do.”
Almost Heaven Sunset Slush will be serving up their popular Italian Ice throughout the duration of the State Fair of West Virginia, continuing their tradition of bringing smiles and sweet treats to fair attendees.
They can be found across from the Starship 3000 ride.
