BARBOUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is in jail after he assaulted his elderly uncle, acting belligerently at deputies and spitting blood into the face of a nurse.
On August 28, 2024, Deputies D.A. Cale and G. Kennedy of the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Philippi, West Virginia. Upon arrival, they encountered Jeffrey Luke Mayle, who was lying on the living room floor and appeared to be heavily intoxicated, with blood covering his face and clothing.
The deputies determined that Mayle had arrived at the residence in an intoxicated state and begun pushing his 70-year-old uncle down into a chair and breaking items in the home. Lincoln stated that Jeffrey then became aggressive and assaulted him, prompting the man to defend himself and restrain Jeffrey until law enforcement arrived. The deputies observed several bite marks on the victim’s body, indicating Jeffrey had bitten him during the altercation.
Jeffrey Mayle continued to act belligerently, kicking, cursing, and spitting at the deputies. Emergency medical services were called, and Jeffrey was taken into custody for domestic battery. He was transported to Broaddus Hospital for treatment, during which he remained non-compliant, spitting blood into the face of an emergency room nurse.
Following medical treatment, Jeffrey Mayle was transported to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail to await arraignment. Records show he has a previous domestic battery conviction from May 30, 2001, in Canton, Ohio. He is now facing charges of domestic battery (2nd offense), battery on a healthcare worker, and assault on law enforcement.
