FORT GAY, WV – Authorities are investigating a fatal fire in Wayne County.
On Monday, October 28, 2024, West Virginia State Police Trooper N.A. Rodgers and members of the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to the scene of a deadly fire on Mill Creek Road in Fort Gay. The Fort Gay Fire Department had responded to a residential fire earlier, discovering the victim inside the burned structure.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office, led by Fire Marshal Chastain, is now overseeing the investigation, with Tpr. Rodgers assisting. Authorities have yet to determine both the cause of the fire and the cause of the victim’s death. The Wayne County Medical Examiner responded to the scene, and the victim was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office in Charleston for further analysis.
The investigation remains active, with officials working to uncover the details surrounding this tragic incident.
