FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A tragic accident on Harewood Mountain has claimed the life of a Fayette County man, currently residing in Braxton County, in what authorities are describing as a single-vehicle UTV accident.
According to a statement from Sheriff Shannon Morris, Fayette County deputies were alerted to a potential accident involving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) around 7:30 p.m. on November 1, 2024. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find that a UTV had veered off a gravel road and tumbled approximately 300 feet down a steep embankment.
The driver, who was reportedly ejected from the vehicle during the fall, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have withheld his name out of respect for his family and community.
The Fayette County Fire Vertical Rope Rescue Team assisted the sheriff’s department in the response, working to secure the accident site in challenging terrain.
Sheriff Morris extended his condolences to the family and thanked all emergency personnel who responded to the scene.
