PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Alan Andrew Brooks, a 71-year-old resident of Princeton and former Bluefield resident, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on November 4, 2024, for the sexual assault of a minor, which occurred over several years in the 1980s. Mercer County Circuit Court Judge William Sadler handed down the maximum possible sentence after Brooks pled guilty in August to three counts of third-degree sexual assault.
The charges against Brooks, who was 31 at the time of the incidents, relate to assaults that began in 1984 when the victim was 12 and continued until she was 14. Prosecuting Attorney Brian K. Cochran stated that Judge Sadler sentenced Brooks to three consecutive terms of 1-5 years for each count, amounting to a total of 15 years.
The case was brought to authorities in October 2023, when the now-adult victim, residing out of state, reported the assaults to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. She provided text messages as evidence, showing Brooks’ responses when she confronted him about the abuse. Investigators confirmed the assaults, which occurred in Green Valley and Bluefield, West Virginia. Brooks was later indicted by a Mercer County Grand Jury in February 2024.
Cochran commended the investigation completed by the Sheriff’s Department and stated that his office and the victim agreed with the sentence handed down by Judge Sadler.
