WASHINGTON, DC (LOOTPRESS) – Incoming Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) was informed that his bulldog, Babydog, a beloved fixture at West Virginia events, won’t be allowed on the Senate floor during legislative sessions.
Although Babydog has joined Justice at high-profile political events, Senate rules only permit service animals on the floor, with additional precautions for allergies.
Justice, in Washington for Senate orientation, assured officials that Babydog won’t be an issue during sessions. Dogs are often seen in congressional offices, but the floor has stricter access rules.
Babydog was a gift to Jim Justice from his children in 2019. According to Justice, she got her name as a puppy after Justice would ask, “Where did that baby dog go?” and the name stuck. Justice has described Babydog as a “little rascal who looks like a brown watermelon that loves everybody”. She loves chicken nuggets from Wendy’s and hates celery.
In February 2024, Babydog successfully underwent ligament surgery.
