FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An Ansted man has been found guilty of methamphetamine possession while under law enforcement custody.
According to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney of Fayette County, on February 9, 2024, 63-year-old Shannon D. Carte was observed exhibiting suspicious behavior while awaiting a Circuit Court hearing from a holding cell.
Subsequent review of video surveillance footage by Fayette County Deputies revealed that Carte had been in possession of seven grams of methamphetamine while inside the cell. The contraband is reported to have been located inside Carte’s lunch bag.
On Monday, November 18, 2024, Shannon D Carte was convicted on the felony offense of Possession of Methamphetamine by an Inmate of a Correctional Facility as well as misdemeanor Possession in a one-day jury trial before Fayette County Circuit Judge Paul M. Blake, Jr.
At sentencing, Carte will face a one-to-five year sentence for the felony charge after being found guilty of methamphetamine possession and a 90-day-to-six-month sentence on the misdemeanor charge.
The case was investigated by members of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Fayette County, Amy McLaughlin.
