The Supreme Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the WVSSAC, clearing way for the Class A volleyball state tournament to take place.
“The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia has ruled to vacate the injunctions issued by the Tyler County Circuit Court and the Hardy County Circuit Court regarding the 2024 WVSSAC Class A State Volleyball Tournament and the 2024 State Cheer Competition. This decision allows the WVSSAC to proceed with these events in accordance with its established rules and authority.
By vacating the Hardy County Circuit Court injunction, the Court determined that its ruling is no longer applicable. In addition, the Supreme Court found that the Tyler County Circuit Court exceeded its authority in directing the WVSSAC to reclassify Tyler Consolidated High School from Class AA to Class A in volleyball and cheer.
The Court further affirmed that the WVSSAC retains its authority to oversee and enforce the rules governing the Class A Volleyball and Class A Cheer competitions.
The 2024 WVSSAC Class A State Volleyball Tournament will take place as scheduled on December 2-3, 2024, at West Virginia State University. The tournament will feature the following seeding:
1. East Hardy
2. Greenbrier West
3. Wirt
4. Pendleton County
5. Magnolia
6. Sherman
7. River View
8. St. Marys
