Narrows, Va. – Eli Allen scored a game-high 29 points as James Monroe opened its season with a 77-33 win over Giles, Va. Friday night in Narrows.
Senior sharpshooter and fellow first-team all-stater Shad Sauvage added 18 points for the Mavericks in the win. Giles was led by Logan Simmons, who scored 13 points.
James Monroe will play again on Saturday in the Giles tournament.

Bluefield 59, Greenbrier East 52
FAIRLEA – R.J. Hairston poured in 18 points as Class AA Bluefield knocked off Class AAAA Greenbrier East 59-52 in Fairlea Friday.
Trailing by 12 after the first quarter, the Spartans stormed back to make it a one-point game at the half but the Beavers outscored them 17-14 in both the third and fourth quarters to preserve the win.
Adam Seams led the Spartans with 13 points while Goose Gabbert tallied 11. Jae’on Flack and Caleb Fuller added 12 each for the Beavers. Bluefield will host Oak Hill on Tuesday while Greenbrier East will travel to Roanoke Catholic on Saturday.
