MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is dead, and one man is facing charges after a stand-off with police.
Mercer County Deputies said a shots fired call occurred on Maple Acres Road at around 9:30 pm. When deputies arrived, John William Aaron Norton fired several shots, barricaded himself inside a home, and continued firing shots.
Deputies tried to get Norton to surrender, but during the process, Jessica Smith, 40, was shot by Norton. Deputies tried to render first-aid, but she later died at Princeton Community Hospital from a single gunshot.
State Police Special Response Team assisted the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department in bringing Norton into custody.
Norton is charged with eight counts of Wanton Endangerment, second-degree murder, and a felon possessing a firearm. He is being held in Southern Regional Jail under no bond.
