SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The perpetrator of a violent domestic incident on Tuesday is currently being held without bond a South Central Regional Jail.
27-year-old Vanilson Fernandes Monteiro of South Charleston faces charges of Kidnapping, Wanton Endangerment, and Strangulation following a series of events involving a female victim and, at some points, the child of the victim.
A criminal arrest warrant filed on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, by Corporal H.L. Summers in Kanawha County Magistrate Court indicates that Monteiro “physically choked to the point of blacking out, threatened with a firearm, and held with the intent to terrorize the victim.”
Reports from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office indicate that, on Tuesday, the incident began at an address in the 900 block of Lincoln Drive in the South Charleston area following an argument.
The victim in the incident has stated that the suspect woke her up by pouring water on her and smacking her in the face, at which point the victim retreated to the bedroom with her child but was attacked yet again by the suspect and forced into the bathtub.
Here, the victim states she was wrapped in the shower curtain and was kicked and choked to the point of losing consciousness. It is further stated that the victim had her arms and legs bound together by the suspect and that she was pepper sprayed by the suspect.
Attempting to deescalate the situation to transport her child to school, the victim was forced to ride to the school with her attacker so that she would be unable to seek assistance.
Upon arriving to Lincoln Drive, the victim reports having her life threatened by the suspect with a firearm. The victim was, however, apparently able to calm the suspect enough to allow her to go to work, where she eventually sought help.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal H.S. Summers reports having found probable cause to file charges for Kidnapping, Wanton Endangerment, and Strangulation against the suspect. Monteiro was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court and remains at South Central Regional Jail.
