The Beckley Babe Ruth 16U All-Stars completed pool play with a win Friday, while the Beckley Babe Ruth 14U All-Stars also picked up a win to open single elimination bracket play at the Ohio Valley Regional.
The Beckley 16U squad beat the host team, Eau Claire, WI, 14-4 in five innings to finish pool play undefeated. Beckley will now battle Munster, IN Saturday at 4 p.m. EST, to open single elimination bracket play.
With the game tied at 1-1 heading to the top of the third inning, Beckley started to pull away scoring four runs before Eau Claire scored two runs in the bottom of the frame.
It was the calm before the storm for Beckley who exploded for nine runs over the next two innings to put the game away.
Brady Williams and Tyler Wilhite combined to record 12 strikeouts, with Williams picking up the win.
Eight Beckley players had at least one base-knock in the 14-hit attack. Brady Williams was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Parker Williams collected two hits and drove in four runs.
Sam Barnett had two hits, along with an RBI and scored three times. Maddex Sims smacked a double, scored four times and also had an RBI.
Levi Barnett drove home two runs, with Drew Gallaher and Wilhite adding two hits each to the Beckley attack.
Friday started a little rough for the Beckley 14U squad falling to Janesville, WI via a no-hitter. The loss gave Beckley a 1-1 record in pool play and forced a rematch with day one opponent, and host team, Crown Point, IN.
Coming off a 6-3 win Thursday over the Bulldogs, Beckley blanked Crown Point, 10-0 in five innings, behind a one-hit shutout from Parker Hodge. Hodge also struck-out nine batters.
Kyler Quesenberry had two hits and two RBI for Beckley who collected 12 hits in the win. Hodge, Jacob Varney and Chance Moore all had two hits each with Varney and Moore adding an RBI.
Preston Eades and Moore had a double with Eades adding an RBI.
The win moves Beckley into Saturday’s semifinal round where it will face a rematch with Janesville at 11 a.m. EST.
