WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Backroads of Appalachia, a nonprofit organization focused on motorsports tourism, has released its 2024 Regional Impact Study, highlighting the economic contributions of its events in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia.
The study, conducted by Dr. Gregory Green, Ph.D., reveals that the organization’s initiatives generated $92.4 million in regional economic activity last year.
According to the report, Backroads of Appalachia hosted 75,351 participants and spectators across 51 counties, leading to an economic impact of $50.5 million in Kentucky and $41.9 million in West Virginia.
These activities also contributed to the creation of 1,055 full-time equivalent jobs, supporting local businesses and revitalizing communities affected by the decline of the coal industry.
Backroads of Appalachia credits its success to the support of local communities, legislators, motorsports enthusiasts, and partner organizations.
Major contributors include the Appalachian Regional Commission, USDA, JTF, Kentucky Energy Cabinet, Kentucky Opioid Abatement Council, and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
Backroads of Appalachia says it remains committed to expanding its impact in the coming years.
