Independence 8, Greenbrier East 5 (10 innings)
Fairlea – Independence scored three runs in the 10th inning to beat Greenbrier East 8-5 Friday night in Fairlea.
Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Indy’s Carson Brown notched a double into the gap that tied the game at five runs each. The Patriots later capitalized, scoring the winning runs in the 10th.
On the mound Clay Basham entered the game in the fifth inning, striking out 10 over six innings while allowing just one unearned run. Noah Hanna led the Spartans at the plate with two hits, a double and a triple. Jordan Mize added two hits as well as two RBIs.
Indy improves to 15-1, avenging its lone loss of the season and will travel to Midland Trail on Monday. Greenbrier East falls to 13-4 and will host Beckley on Saturday.
