BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley man faces charges after allegedly shooting another man in the neck.
According to Beckley Police, on Saturday, May 1, 2021, they responded to Raleigh General Hospital about a male dropped off with a suspected gunshot wound to the face area.
Police observed a large amount of blood all over the passenger side door panel, the front dash, and the floorboard. Also observed was what appeared to be a fired bullet hole through the dash and a fired bullet laying on the floorboard of the passenger side.
When deputies spoke to the victim, he said that he and Eric Baker had a short history due to issues at work at Golden Corral. The victim stated that Baker called him and asked him why he was talking about him? The victim denied it, and Baker advises the victim to pull up and find out.
The victim drove to Baker’s house for what he said would be a one on one fight. He stated that they both got into a fight and that Baker’s girlfriend brought him a black handgun after being asked. The victim then ran to get in the car, and Baker attempted to pistol whip the victim. Baker put the firearm in the victim’s vehicle, and the firearm went off, striking the victim in the face. The victim stated his girlfriend rushed him to the hospital.
Police later went to the home of Baker and retrieved a firearm. The girlfriend told police she wanted a lawyer and wasn’t going to speak without one. Baker agreed to speak to the police and said he did call the victim and told him to pull up to his residence to fight. He also stated that he put a firearm in the trunk just in case he needed it. Baker said he went to pistol whip the victim and the gun just went off. He then went back inside with his girlfriend. Police say that Baker never called emergency services or law enforcement.
Baker is charged with malicious wounding. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 50,000 dollar bond.
