BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Police Department (BPD) has released an update following a brief lockdown at Woodrow Wilson High School.
According to BPD, Woodrow Wilson High School was temporarily placed on lockdown just before 10:30 a.m. on October 24, 2024, following a student’s report of a possible weapon on campus.
A student overheard a conversation suggesting that another student might be armed, prompting school staff to immediately initiate lockdown procedures and contact emergency services.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Beckley Police Department, responded swiftly to the scene.
The school’s resource officer and staff were able to quickly locate the students involved.
After investigating, police detectives and school officials confirmed that no weapon was found on the premises and there was no ongoing threat.
The lockdown was lifted around 11:30 a.m., allowing the school to resume normal operations.
The Beckley Police Department will continue investigating the incident to determine what led to the initial report.
