Charleston – Staring the postseason square in the face, Beckley Post 32 Top Prospects needed to take care of business this week to secure home field advantage in the upcoming American Legion Area Tournament.
Tuesday night the Beckley boys dropped the hammer on Charleston Post 65 with a 6-0 and a 15-4 win to sweep the season series between the two teams.
Gavin Bennett was stellar on the mound in the opening game win. The former Greenbrier East standout tossed a complete game shutout on 89 pitches, surrendering just four hits and striking out nine.
Cole “16-ton” Brown continued his tear at the dish with two hits, one of which was a double, and two RBI.
Brayden Kiblinger added two hits, while Reece Patterson, Adam Richmond, Bryson Redmond and Peyton DeHaven drove in one run apiece.
Beckley (23-5) left no doubt in game two, scoring 10 runs before Charleston stepped to the plate.
Richmond led the Post 32 attack with a pair of hits and four runs batted in, while Patterson smacked a double and drove in two runs.
Bennett and Jake Meadows drove in two more runs for Beckley with Brown, Grayson Kesterson and Henry Goodwin all contributing one RBI each.
Beckley Post 32 closes out the American Legion regular season Friday at Linda K. Epling Stadium when it hosts Winfield Post 187. Game one starts at 6 p.m.
