CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginians are facing bitterly cold temperatures and lingering snow showers as arctic air grips the region through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Motorists should exercise extreme caution this morning, as untreated roads may be slick.
Wind chills have dropped below zero, and officials advise travelers to pack extra warm clothing in case of accidents or breakdowns.
Snow showers are expected to taper off to flurries from west to east this morning, though occasional flurries may persist through the afternoon.
High temperatures today will remain in the teens, with single-digit readings in higher elevations.
Another disturbance in the arctic air could bring additional light snow on Tuesday.
The coldest temperatures of the season are forecast for Wednesday morning, with lows falling below zero across much of the region.
A gradual warming trend is expected by the end of the workweek, though weak weather systems could bring more precipitation Thursday night into Friday and again on Sunday.
