OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for approximately 6,329 customers in the Oak Hill and Fayetteville areas.
The advisory, which includes locations such as CAMC Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill High School, and Fayette Institute of Technology, is in effect due to a water main break that occurred overnight.
The advisory affects customers in the area between the City of Mount Hope Interconnection on Legends Highway, near US 19, and the Maple Lane crossing with US 19, including all roads connected to US 19 within the service area.
As a result of the break, the primary water tank in the region emptied, disrupting service. Crews are working to restore service, which is expected to be completed by 12:00 PM today.
Until service is restored, affected customers are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, bathing, or brushing teeth.
Boiling water kills bacteria and other harmful organisms that may be present.
West Virginia American Water will provide updates as more information becomes available.
