BRENTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Dawton Wade Mullins, 22, of Brenton, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance on October 30, 2024. His plea follows a September arrest after a breaking-and-entering investigation led to the discovery of illegal substances and cash in his vehicle.
On September 24, Corporal Christian Hedinger of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a break-in near Indian Creek. While investigating, Corporal Hedinger observed Mullins driving away from the area in a red vehicle. Recognizing Mullins and knowing of active warrants against him, Hedinger initiated a stop. Mullins resisted arrest initially, resulting in a brief struggle before officers could restrain him. A search of Mullins’ vehicle turned up substances believed to be controlled drugs, scales, a substantial amount of cash, and a firearm.
Wyoming County Prosecutor Gregory Bishop praised Hedinger’s professional handling of the incident. “This arrest highlights the daily risks our officers encounter,” Bishop said, commending the officer’s skillful response. Assistant Prosecutor Derek Laxton led the case, and Bishop thanked both Corporal Hedinger, Corporal Justin Grimmett, and Trooper JR Harper of the West Virginia State Police for their work on the investigation.
Mullins is scheduled for sentencing in December 2024, where he could face two to ten years in the Department of Corrections for the conspiracy charge.
