CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Kanawha County man was sentenced on Thursday for up to charges pertaining to the theft of multiple pieces of equipment, including a catalytic converter.
According to Kanawha County court documents, in 2022 between the months of April and August, 33-year-old Robert Lee Butterworth committed several acts of Grand Larceny. Such acts include the theft of multiple catalytic converters from a number of areas across Kanawha County, as well as the theft of a black 2002 Dodge Ram vehicle in the Cross Lanes area.
Butterworth also faces a Breaking and Entering charge in relation to the unlawful entry of the property of Airgas of Charleston during this period.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney of Kanawha County reports that Butterworth has pled guilty and been convicted of Breaking and Entering along with three counts of Grand Larceny. This conviction came on September 23, 2024.
On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Butterworth was sentenced to the maximum possible penalty for the aforementioned crimes entailing multiple catalytic converter thefts, the theft of a vehicle, and unlawful entry. Butterworth faces a maximum penalty of up to 40 years in a correctional penitentiary.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Monica Shwartz before the Honorable Kanawha County Circuit Judge, Jennifer Bailey.
