Charleston Catholic is a perennial contender in Class A. Unfortunately for Region 3, when the reclassifications were announced last year the Irish remained in the region they’ve terrorized for years.
Though they’re not a lock to win the section.
Midland Trail comes into the sectional tournament as the No. 2 seed, battle-tested. Led by the stellar pitching duo of Cy and Bo Persinger, the Patriots split with Charleston Catholic this year and beat Class AAA Oak Hill. Their only losses, aside from the 3-1 loss to Catholic, have been to Class AA teams. They enter the sectional tournament at 15-6.
Since the section has six teams, Catholic and Trail will get byes until Wednesday.
Catholic will play the winner of No. 6 Richwood and No. 4 Webster County while Trail will host the winner of No. 6 Pocahontas County and No. 3 Greenbrier West.
Richwood comes in at 2-11 while Webster is 3-16. Webster County beta Richwood 14-4 in their only matchup this season. Pocahontas County is 2-11 while Greenbrier West is 9-8.
In the only matchup between those two teams West won 16-0.
The Class A Region 3, Section 2 tournament will begin Tuesday with the four lower seeds while the top two seeds will open on Wednesday.
