ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University presented its latest upgrade last week, unveiling the newly renovated campus recreation court.
Concord University students, faculty, staff, and leadership were on hand Friday for the ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias celebrating the addition.
The newly renovated court, made possible through the CU Alumni Association and CU Foundation as part of the CU Ascend campaign – will offer users space for tennis, basketball, and pickleball after having previously been used only for tennis. The recreation area will now feature two pickleball courts and two basketball courts in addition to spaces for tennis.
Newly installed windscreens and outdoor speakers were also among the additions made to the recreation space, the updates to which have reportedly been in discussion for some time.
“This will expand intramural opportunities and provide the campus community with updated court space,” Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias Executive Director of Advancement, Joshua Cline said of the upgrade. “We are excited for Concord and their beautiful recreation space!”
In a statement, the university expressed excitement at the opportunities which will be afforded to the Concord community by way of the upgraded recreation court.
“We’re thrilled to unveil our newly renovated recreation court, offering space for tennis, basketball, and pickle ball,” read the statement. “This project… brings exciting new opportunities for students, staff, and the Athens community to stay active and connect.”
It has also been announced that necessary equipment for pickleball and tennis will be made available to rent right on campus, with equipment rentals now available at the Concord University Jean & Jerry Beasley Student Center.
These renovations were made possible in part by the CU Ascend Campaign. To learn more about the CU Ascend Campaign, including ways to donate or get involved, visit the CU Ascend website.
