ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University’s Esports program will be bringing the very first multi-team Local Area Network event to the Concord campus this weekend.
The two-day tournament event will host a maximum of 32 collegiate teams which will compete across three different titles on November 9, 2024, and November 10, 2024. Featured titles will include Street Fighter 6, Rocket League, and the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops6.
Eight schools will compete in Rocket League and Call of Duty, while a hybrid 16-person tournament will be held for Street Fighter 6.
According to Concord Esports Director Austin Clay, day one of the tournament will feature round robin play wherein all participating schools will play against one another in order to determine the seeding for Sunday’s Championship play. Sunday will feature a double elimination bracket which will determine the champion across all three titles.
All 32 participating schools will be competing for the ECAC Campus Series championship trophy and their share of the $3,000 prize pool across all three titles. Viewers will be able to stream the weekend’s events by way of the Concord Esports Twitch channel. Spectators will also be able to observe from the Concord Esports Arena with paid admission.
“Over the past five years, Concord Esports has expanded significantly, growing from an initial 18 students to now 77 students across 13 competitive teams and a production team,” said Clay. “This growth has enabled us to expand our facilities, providing the space necessary to host the ECAC Campus Series Invitational on campus.”
Thus far, universities participating in the event will include University of Kentucky, Akron University, and Purdue University, with additional participating schools to be announced on the Concord Esports social media accounts.
“This event marks our largest LAN gathering to date,” Clay continued. “Our goal is to highlight the unifying power of esports and its capacity to bring people together in competition, especially in Southern West Virginia. We hope this event will inspire high schools, colleges, and amateur leagues to consider hosting more LAN events across the state.”
Assistant Commissioner & Director of Esports for ECAC said of the upcoming event, “we are excited and grateful for Concord University to host our second Campus Series Invitational. This is the best part of the job. We are honored to be able to provide the opportunity for our members to compete in person, this is what it’s all about. We are ready to watch all the action unfold.”
