Shady Spring and Woodrow Wilson had highly successful days on the high school cross country trails Saturday.
The Tigers took top honors in both the boys and girls divisions at the Westside Invitational, while the Flying Eagles finished second in both divisions at the Fairmont Senior Invitational.
In the boys race in Clear Fork, where the regional meet will be held later in the month, Shady Spring had seven runners finish in the top-12.
Jacob Dowdy again came home first with Jaedan Holstein finishing second. Sam Jordan was sixth and his younger brother Eli Jordan followed in eighth place.
Eli Northrop, Zane Carothers and Garett Hatcher finished 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.
Trey Stanley from Richwood was third, while Wyoming East runner Jacob Ellison was fourth and PikeView’s Braden Ward was fifth.
Ward’s teammate, Matt Murphy came home seventh place and Sawyer Dobbins from Clay County was ninth.
Shady Spring also dominated the girls high school race with four runners in the top-six finishers.
Tiger standout Charlotte McGinnis was first to cross the line for the ladies, doing so by more than two minutes. Abigail Houck finished in third place, Ryen Keffer was fifth and Journey Whistoff was sixth.
Wyoming East had one of its strongest team runs of the year with five runners finishing 13th or better.
Colleen Lookabill was second and Sara Harris was fourth to lead the Warriors. Amy Vest, Brianna Cook and Raylee Adkins finished in 11th – 13th place respectively.
Lacie Necessary from PikeView was seventh overall, while Chloe Honaker from Independence was eighth. Christian Rogers from Clay County was ninth and PikeView’s Bailey Williams was tenth.
At the Fairmont race with a field of nearly 100 runners, Woodrow Wilson freshman Aiden Kneeland brought home his first high school title besting the second-place finisher by nearly 30 seconds.
Christian Saffouri was sixth for the Flying Eagles and Chris Huffman was 14th. Robert Shirey was 19th and Connor Cormack came in 23rd.
Nicholas County’s Alex Irvin finished 11th in the boy’s race.
Colette Lindley led the Woodrow Wilson girls with an eighth-place finish and Lauren Curtis was 10th. Kyndall Ince placed 22nd, while Hannah Keiling was 27th and Madison Farrish was 29th.
Haley Johnson from Nicholas County placed sixth overall and teammate Natalie Barr was 21st in a field of 70 runners.
