On a somber August morning in the picturesque Broad River community of Black Mountain, tragedy struck the quiet town as deputies from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing wellness check at a residence on Clarks Crossing Way.
What they discovered upon arrival would send shockwaves through the tight-knit neighborhood – the lifeless body of 63-year-old Lori Pallinger, a beloved local resident.
As the investigation unfolded, a dark truth emerged: Lori’s own daughter, 39-year-old Danya Kathryn Dewey, had been charged with the first-degree murder of her mother.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Response Team, working in tandem with the Asheville Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, quickly apprehended Dewey and placed her in the Buncombe County Detention Facility without bond, determined to uncover the chilling details behind this unthinkable act.
