BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC (LOOTPRESS) – A daughter is accused of killing her mother, posing with her tongue stuck out during her booking photo.
On a somber August morning in the picturesque Broad River community of Black Mountain, tragedy struck the quiet town as deputies from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing wellness check at a residence on Clarks Crossing Way.
What they discovered upon arrival would send shockwaves through the tight-knit neighborhood – the lifeless body of 63-year-old Lori Pallinger, a beloved local resident.
As the investigation unfolded, a dark truth emerged: Lori’s own daughter, 39-year-old Danya Kathryn Dewey, had been charged with the first-degree murder of her mother.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Response Team, working in tandem with the Asheville Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, quickly apprehended Dewey and placed her in the Buncombe County Detention Facility without bond, determined to uncover the chilling details behind this unthinkable act.
While the community reeled from the horrific news, authorities assured residents that this was an isolated incident, positing no further threat to the area.
As the investigation remained ongoing, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office pledged to provide more information as it became available, leaving the town to grapple with the devastating loss and seek answers to this profound tragedy that had shattered the peace of the Broad River community.
