SISSONVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A motorist faces serious charges following a Saturday night accident which left one individual dead and caused the overnight shutdown of a roadway.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reports that a vehicle accident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday when the driver of a pickup truck left the roadway before striking a tree.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and worked to rescue the driver – identified as 27-year-old, Ryan Jones – as well as the passenger of the vehicle – identified as 26-year-old, Dustin Myers from the truck.
Both of the vehicles occupants were transported to CAMC General Hospital for treatment following the rescue attempt. There, the passenger, Dustin Myers, would later succumb to injuries sustained from the crash.
Corporal S.M. Adams of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene, and reports having detected the odor of alcoholic beverages on the driver.
Additionally, the driver of the vehicle is said to have displayed impairment on field sobriety tests, and now faces a felony charge of DUI causing death.
The reconstruction unit indicates that the investigation is still early and will be thorough. It does appear, however, that speed and alcohol will be determined to be contributing factors to the accident.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with any pertinent information or who may have witnessed anything with regard to the crash that may assist in the investigation to contact Corporal S.M. Adams at 304-357-0169.
Jones is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
