CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Dunbar man was recently sentenced on multiple charges stemming from an incident in which he is reported to have struck a law enforcement officer in the head repeatedly.
Kanawha County Court documents indicate that, on February 22, 2024, officers with the Dunbar Police Department were dispatched to Dunbar Avenue in the Dunbar, WV area in relation to a reported Battery incident.
While traveling to the area in question, a patrolman located a male individual matching the description of the offender, identified as 33-year-old Juriah Jordan Roncal of Dunbar.
The officer engaged Roncal, beginning to speak with him and informing him that he was to be detained. This reportedly caused Roncal to become violent, leading the officer on a foot chase initially before charging and striking him in the head repeatedly, leading to an injury.
The Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reports that, on October 9, 2024, Juriah Jordan Roncal was convicted of Battery and Unlawful Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer by way of a “Guilty” plea.
As such, the perpetrator is expected to serve a maximum sentence of 12 months on the charge of Battery consecutive to an indeterminate sentence of one-to-five years on the charge of Unlawful Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer.
“The Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney commends the vigilance and professionalism of the Dunbar Police Department,” read a statement from the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in relation to the conviction.
The case was prosecuted before the Honorable Kenneth Ballard, Kanawha County Circuit Judge, by Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Kanawha County, George Sitler.
