(LOOTPRESS) – Grimmway Farms has issued a recall for select organic whole carrots and baby carrots sold across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada due to potential contamination with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) O121.
This bacterium is known to cause severe foodborne illnesses, including symptoms such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, and in extreme cases, kidney failure.
The affected products include:
- Organic whole carrots sold under brands like Cal-Organic, Bunny Luv, and Trader Joe’s, without a “best-if-used-by” date, available from August 14 to October 23, 2024.
- Organic baby carrots with “best-if-used-by” dates ranging from September 11 to November 12, 2024, sold under brands like Marketside, Nature’s Promise, and O-Organics.
Although these carrots are no longer on store shelves, consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers. If you have purchased these products, dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase.
This contamination was discovered during routine testing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommend seeking medical attention if symptoms of E. coli infection appear, especially for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
