ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The next White Coat Ceremony for the Concord University College of Nursing will take place during the first week of September.
The ceremony, scheduled to be held at 6:00pm, will take place on the Concord University campus at the Wilkes Family Chapel at University Point.
Represented through the ceremony is the symbolic transition for nursing students into the world of patient care. The ceremony will be held during the nursing program’s second semester, at which time nursing students will be beginning their clinical studies at various medical organizations.
“We take immense pride in our nursing students and their unwavering commitment to reaching their goals,” said Concord Director of Nursing, Dr. Michele Holt. “We eagerly anticipate this next phase of the nursing program, where students will gain invaluable hands-on experience and deeper insights into patient care.”
Columbia University was the site of the very first White Coat Ceremony, which was held in 1993. There, Dr. Arnold P. Gold was a champion of human-centered care and a world-renowned pediatric neurologist.
“Dr. Gold believed that reciting the Hippocratic Oath at graduation was far too late. He envisioned the White Coat Ceremony as a ritual to emphasize the importance of compassion in patient care at the start of medical training,” says the Arthur P. Gold Foundation website. “After the first ceremony at Columbia, the Gold Foundation, led by Dr. Gold’s wife and the nonprofit’s first CEO, Dr. Sandra Gold, spread the White Coat Ceremony around the world.”
