HICO, WV (LOOTPRESS) โ On Tuesday evening, the Fayette County Board of Education (BOE) approved contracts for the construction of a new Midland Trail Elementary School, as well as new baseball and softball fields for Midland Trail High School.
In December 2023, the West Virginia School Building Authority (SBA) awarded Fayette County Schools a grant of $15,625,860 for the new elementary school.
The Fayette County BOE has committed an additional $6 million toward the project.
The contract for the new school was awarded to Swope Construction Company of Bluefield, totaling $18,529,000. The BOE unanimously approved the contract in a 5-0 vote.
The new Midland Trail Elementary will be located on the grounds of Midland Trail High School, which serves grades 6 through 12.
The new school will house students from Divide Elementary in Lookout and Ansted Elementary in Ansted, serving grades Pre-K through 5.
The Fayette County BOE voted to close both schools in 2021.
Additionally, the board approved a $3,322,468.10 contract with Spring Creek Consultants & Contractors, Inc. of Lewisburg for the construction of a new baseball and softball complex for Midland Trail High.
This project will be fully funded by the Fayette County BOE.
