FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County Humane Society confirmed on Sunday that the shelter is back at code red status due to “extreme overcrowding.”
The organization is pleading with community members to consider adopting to alleviate the conditions being faced by animals and staff at the Fayette County shelter, stating if the conditions, “every room is full, and dogs are living in outdoor cages full-time, which is not sustainable. The pup room, intake room, and old dog room are severely overcrowded.”
In an attempt to address the overcrowding, Fayette Counth Humane Society will be offering a $40 adoption special through the end of August. The special will cover needs such as vaccinations, flea and tick prevention, dewormer, and a no-cost spay & neuter voucher.
“As a no-kill shelter, we will not euthanize for space and will continue to care for our animals until they are adopted,” FCHS says.
The organization has been one of several to have found themselves at code red status multiple times over the summer, with over-population of animals throughout the state leading to less than ideal circumstances at local shelters.
