NITRO, WV (LOOTPRESS) โ A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 between the Cross Lanes and Nitro exits early Friday morning, according to the Nitro Fire Department.
Rescue and firefighting crews from Station 80, Rescue/Engine 851, and multiple mutual aid agencies โ including Kanawha and Putnam County fire departments, Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Poca Community Volunteer Fire Department, and Teays Valley Fire Department โ responded to the scene.
The accident caused significant delays as westbound traffic was diverted for several hours.
Two eastbound lanes reopened around 8 a.m., but officials with the City of Nitro warned that travel in the area would remain affected throughout the day.
Two individuals were transported to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not been released.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
