The 89th edition of the West Virginia Open Championship tees off Wednesday morning at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia.
The tournament is sponsored by the West Virginia Golf Association and will be the first time the WV OPEN has been played at Stonewall Resort which is celebrating its 20th year of existence.
The field will consist of 132 professional and amateur golfers who will tee it up in two sessions. The morning session will start 7:30 a.m., while the afternoon groups will start at 12:30 p.m.
The field will be cut to the top-60 scores and ties after Thursdayโs second round who will then compete in Fridayโs final round.
Five former champions will vie for the championship including defending champion David Bradshaw who has 12 titles to his credit, 2020 champion Kenny Hess, Christian Brand (2014-2015), Craig Berner (2005), Jonathan Clark (2001 and 2012) and John Ross (1997 and 1999).
Recent Westside graduate and 2022 Junior Match Play Champion Tanner Walls along with reigning West Virginia Mid-Amateur Champion Jess Ferrell and reigning West Virginia Senior Open Champion Pat Carter are also among the 132-player field.
Chris Daniels leads a local contingent of players that includes current WVU golfer Todd Duncan, Matt Felber, Brian Hart, Davey Jude, Jeff McGraw, Hunter OโNeal, Carson Proffitt, Patrick Smith, Jarod Taylor, Tanner Vest, Jonah Wilson and David Woodrum.
Seven-time Major championship winner Sam Snead holds the record for the most WV OPEN victories with 17.
