CHAPMANVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Gov. Jim Justice delivered today a $200,000 investment to complete the Chief Logan Recreational Center renovation project, an important piece of a broader effort to boost Southern West Virginia’s economy.
With combined state and federal contributions surpassing $11.5 million and $1.5 million coming from local partners, this $13 million project represents a major investment in the region’s future.
“This project means a whole lot to the future of Logan County and Southern West Virginia,” Gov. Justice said. “We’re building more than just a rec center—we’re creating an economic hub that will serve this region for generations. West Virginia is truly on a rocketship ride, and I’m excited to see us keep soaring, especially in a place like Southern West Virginia. This place has some of the best people on the planet that deserve these funds, and we are going to continue investing in this region.”
Key features of the recreation center include two fully-turfed ballfields, three indoor tennis courts, a modern fitness center, expanded fitness spaces, a multipurpose building with courts for basketball and tennis, and a permanent sediment control pond connected to several hiking trails.
The project, which is slated to be finished in 2025, positions Southern West Virginia as a major destination for sports, outdoor activities, and wellness, providing opportunities for local residents and visitors from all around the world.
