CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice has declared a State of Preparedness for all 55 counties in West Virginia ahead of a winter storm forecasted to impact the state in the coming days.
The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts that a cold front will bring accumulating snow beginning Thursday night, January 2, 2025, and continuing through Friday, January 3, with snow showers lingering into Saturday, January 4.
The State of Preparedness enables the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) to position personnel and resources for a rapid response to potential emergencies.
Coordinating agencies are on standby and prepared to report to the State Emergency Operations Center if necessary.
Gov. Justice and the WVEMD urge residents to stay informed by monitoring weather updates through local media and to follow any instructions issued by emergency officials.
West Virginians can check the latest weather watches, warnings, and advisories for their area through the following National Weather Service offices:
- Charleston: Covers most of the state
- Baltimore/Washington: Eastern Panhandle
- Blacksburg: Southeastern West Virginia
- Pittsburgh: Northern Panhandle
Residents are encouraged to prepare for the storm and stay vigilant as conditions develop.
