When the Class A track meet begins on Thursday at Laidley Field in Charleston, Summers County, James Monroe, Greenbrier West and Richwood will all be well-represented on the boys and girls sides.
James Monroe and Summers qualified four individual athletes while Richwood and Greenbrier West bring six.
Starting on the boys side Greenbrier West will have four athletes competing in four different individual events and field teams in the 4×100 relay, 4×200 relay, 4×400 relay and 4×110-meter shuttle hurdle. In the individual events the Cavaliers will have participants in the 200-meter dash (Logan Shrewsbery), 300-meter hurdles (Kaiden Pack and Shrewsbery), the high jump (Marvin Vaughan and Michael Kanode) and the long jump (Kanode).
Richwood will have three boys competing in individual events – Trey Stanley, Aiden Miller and Josh Landreth. Stanley will participate in the 800 and 3200-meter runs, coming in as the the No. 12 seed. Miller will participate in the long jump as the No. 13 seed and the high jump as the No. 11 seed while Landreth will compete in the discus throw, coming in as the No. 7 seed.
Braydie Carr and Aiden Rowe are the only qualifiers on the boys side for James Monore. Carr will compete in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes while Rowe qualified for the 1600.
Summers County’s Landon Richmond and Ian Gardner qualified as individuals but the Bobcats will have teams in three different events. Richmond qualified for the 100 meter dash where he’ll be the No. 16 seed. He also qualified for the 200, where he comes in as the No. 11 seed. Gardner qualified for the 400 meter where he’ll be the No. 4 seed. As a team Summers will participate in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
West’s Greenbrier Pack (300 meter hurdles) and Summers’ Gardner (400 meter run) will enter the state tournament as the highest seeds in the area as both notched the No. 4 seed in their respective events.
On the girls side three of the schools will have two girls each competing in individual events while Richwood will have three.
For Summers County Riley Richmond will be the No. 16 seed in the 100-meter dash while Alyvia Harvey is the No. 15 seed in shot put.
James Monroe’s Lilly Jackson qualified for the 200 and 400-meter dashes as well as the long jump. Her classmate Emma Ballard also qualified for the long jump, coming in as the No. 16 seed.
Greenbrier West’s Raelyn Palmer qualified for the 33-inch 100-meter hurdles while Meagan Poticher will compete in the discus throw and shot put.
Last but not least, Richwood’s Carlee Dillard qualified for the high jump as the No. 10 seed while Chloe Cox will be the No. 15 seed in the long jump. Freshman Bayle Jarrett rounds out the bunch and will compete in the 1600-meter run.
For team events Greenbrier West will compete in the 4×100 meter relay, the 4×200 meter relay and 4×102.5 meter shuttle hurdle.
Summers will field a team for the 4×800 meter relay while Richwood will compete in the 4×400 meter relay.
The Class A state track meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
