HARPERS FERRY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE 6/25/24 7:52 AM: CSX has provided an update to LOOTPRESS Tuesday morning.
According to CSX, following the fire, CSX teams inspected the bridge and confirmed its structural integrity.
Teams worked safely and expeditiously through the night to replace damaged ties and rail.
One of the two rail lines on the bridge reopened to train traffic at 3:30 AM this morning.
CSX expects the other line to be restored by 11:30 AM this morning.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

UPDATE 6/24/24 7:21 PM: CSX has released the following statement Monday evening following the fire.
“Around 3:45 p.m. ET on June 24, CSX was notified of a fire located on the trestle over the Potomac River rail bridge between Harpers Ferry, W.V., and Sandy Hook, MD. CSX appreciates the swift response of the local first responders that extinguished the fire. Both passenger and freight rail operations will be suspended on the bridge until it can be inspected by our teams. Once the inspection is complete, CSX teams will work safely and expeditiously to make repairs on the impacted line. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is unknown.”
UPDATE 6/24/24 6:50 PM: CSX has provided an update on the fire.
According to CSX, at around 3:45 PM ET on June 24, CSX was notified of a fire located on the trestle over the Potomac River rail bridge between Harpers Ferry, W.V., and Sandy Hook, MD.
As a precaution, train traffic through the area is currently halted.
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is unknown.
CSX says more information will be provided as it becomes available.

UPDATE 6/24/24 6 PM: Amtrak’s Capitol Limited trains have been canceled due to the fire.
According to Amtrak, due to a fire causing infrastructural damage to the Harpers Ferry Bridge, Capitol Limited Trains 29 and 30 are now canceled.

The train bridge is active and owned and maintained by CSX Transportation.
The bridge crosses the Potomac River into Maryland at Harpers Ferry.
