MONONGALIA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected homicide after human remains were discovered on Little Indian Creek Road near Birchfield Run Road on November 15, 2024.
Deputies secured the scene and contacted detectives, who found what appeared to be a shallow grave.
The FBI Evidence Recovery Team from Pittsburgh and a Forensic Anthropology team from Mercyhurst University were called in to assist with the exhumation.
Both teams specialize in forensic evidence recovery in homicide cases.
The remains have been sent to the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy and identification.
Following the autopsy, they will undergo a Forensic Anthropology Examination at Mercyhurst University for further analysis and evidence collection.
The investigation is being treated as a homicide. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 304-291-7260.
