HURRICANE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A domestic dispute at a residence in Hurricane escalated into a physical altercation late Saturday night, resulting in the arrest of 28-year-old Kelsey Smith. Police responded to the incident at approximately 11:12 PM after receiving a call from Joshua Skeens, Smith’s longtime boyfriend, who reported being attacked.
According to Skeens, the couple, who have been together for seven years and share three children, had argued over infidelity allegations. Skeens stated that Smith became angry after discovering he had been texting another woman.
The argument allegedly turned physical as Skeens packed his belongings to leave the home. He told officers that Smith followed him upstairs, cornered him, and began hitting him. Skeens said he raised his arms to defend himself and pushed her away, during which Smith’s ring caused multiple lacerations to his face and ear.
Skeens further alleged that Smith grabbed a knife during the altercation, threatening him while chasing him around the house. The situation was de-escalated when Smith’s father arrived and disarmed her. Smith then allegedly threw Skeens’ PlayStation 5 outside, breaking it, and damaged one of his fishing poles.
Officers observed multiple cuts on Skeens’ face and ear, consistent with his account. Smith displayed a bruise on her right arm, which she claimed was self-inflicted the previous day, and a lump above her left eye, which she alleged was caused by Skeens during the altercation.
After reviewing the evidence and interviewing both parties, officers determined that Kelsey Smith was the primary aggressor. She was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery and Domestic Assault.
