WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) – White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of August to spend more time with her family, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
Trump announced Leavitt’s upcoming departure in a post on Truth Social, saying she will remain involved with his political operation as an outside adviser.
“Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!” Trump wrote.
Trump said Leavitt will transition to a role as one of his top outside advisers and will remain involved in Republican politics ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
“Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump wrote.
Leavitt, 28, became the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history when she assumed the position following Trump’s return to office in January 2025. She previously served as national press secretary for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and held communications roles during Trump’s first administration.
A New Hampshire native, Leavitt also ran for Congress in the state’s 1st Congressional District in 2022, winning the Republican nomination before losing the general election to Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas.
Leavitt gave birth to her second child, a daughter, in May and recently returned to her White House duties following maternity leave.
Trump praised Leavitt’s work in the administration and during his campaigns.
“Karoline has been a real leader in the White House, and has done a phenomenal job fighting for Justice, Liberty, and Freedom, since 2018, including our Historic Re-Election Campaign of 2024,” Trump wrote. “Karoline has been one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office. Thank you, Karoline, for a job well done!”
Trump did not announce who will replace Leavitt as White House press secretary.
