MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) — LG NOVA, the North America Innovation Center for LG Electronics, has appointed Mitch Carmichael, former Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, as senior advisor to spearhead strategic initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and business growth in West Virginia and the Appalachian Region.
In his new role, Carmichael will serve as a critical link between LG NOVA and regional stakeholders, including state agencies, universities, and community organizations. His efforts will focus on driving economic development and advancing technology solutions in renewable energy, healthcare, artificial intelligence, and other emerging industries.
Carmichael brings extensive experience in business development, policy-making, and broadband expansion. He previously served as West Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor and Senate President (2016-2020) and most recently as Secretary of Economic Development (2020-2024).
“Working with LG NOVA allows me to continue serving the Mountain State by collaborating with a global tech leader to create new business opportunities,” said Carmichael. “I’m excited to contribute to advancing innovation and maximizing the region’s economic potential.”
Carmichael will advise LG NOVA’s Head, Dr. Sokwoo Rhee, Executive Vice President of Innovation at LG Electronics, on building partnerships and exploring business opportunities in the region.
LG NOVA has also hired David Ramsburg as Director of Regional Operations and Strategic Partnerships for its Morgantown office. Ramsburg, a West Virginia native and innovation expert, will oversee LG NOVA’s regional branch and drive business development efforts. Previously, Ramsburg served as Executive Director of Innovation at the University of Charleston and co-founded the state chapter of the International Association of Innovation Professionals.
“We’re honored to have Mitch and David join our team,” said Dr. Rhee. “Their expertise will play pivotal roles in LG’s mission to drive innovation and economic growth in West Virginia and the surrounding region.”
Established in 2021, LG NOVA collaborates with startups to build ventures with a positive societal and environmental impact. Its Mission for the Future initiative supports the creation of transformational technologies and partnerships.
Earlier this year, LG Electronics announced its collaboration with West Virginia to bring new investments, technologies, and development opportunities to the state.
