LOGAN COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In the early hours of October 13, 2024, Trooper Z.K. Bragg responded to a single-vehicle accident on WV Route 17 in the Ethel area. While en route, Trooper Bragg received information that the driver had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The victim, identified as 42-year-old Walter Webster Elmore of Logan, was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that the shooting occurred at a residence in the Ethel area. Authorities identified the shooter as 23-year-old Darius James Stanton of Columbus, Ohio. Stanton was arrested during a traffic stop on Pond Fork Road in Boone County.
Stanton was processed at the West Virginia State Police Logan Detachment and then transported to the Southwestern Regional Jail. The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to officials.
