FAYETTE COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – During Wednesday’s Fayette County Commission meeting, Zoning Enforcement Officer Angela Gerald notified the commission that Planning Commission member, Van Burks, is resigning.
While Gerald could not say exactly how long Burks has been a committee member, she believes he has been in the position for at least 20 years.
Burks shared the news of his resignation to Gerald in Dec. of 2020.
“He was a big part of Fayette County’s planning and zoning,” Gerald told Lootpress. “He is in his eighties and decided to enjoy time with his family. Whoever takes his place has some big shoes to fill. He was a staple to Fayette County as far as planning and zoning.”
The commission accepted Burks’ resignation and will appoint an individual to fill his position. Although Burk’s term doesn’t expire until August, he will be permitted to resign once a replacement is chosen.
The position, which is a voluntary position, is open to the public. Those interested can contact the Fayette County Commission Office.
The appointment of a new Planning Commission member will be on the agenda for Monday, Feb. 8.
