BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man accused of swinging a bat and not cooperating with police is behind bars.
On October 22, 2024, law enforcement responded to a disturbance in the Ellis area of Boone County, where an individual reported a male suspect behaving aggressively near the old Ellis Carry-Out. According to the report, the suspect, identified later as Jesse Laws III, was seen swinging a bat against a metal railing and allegedly swung it at a person earlier in the day.
Officers located Laws at the scene wearing the described green shirt. When approached by officers, Laws became irate, denying the accusations and refusing to identify himself. Despite multiple requests, he continued to resist cooperation, eventually stepping toward the officer in a threatening manner. At this point, the officer, interpreting the movement as a potential threat, moved to detain Laws.
Backup from Deputy Cooper was called, and the two officers worked together to subdue Laws, who resisted arrest by refusing to place his arms behind his back. After a brief struggle, the officers successfully restrained him.
Even during transport to the station, Laws continued to refuse to provide his name, prompting officers to use the live scan machine to identify him as Jesse Laws III. Based on the investigation, Laws now faces charges related to resisting arrest and failure to comply, with the incident officially logged in Boone County, West Virginia.
Authorities are continuing to look into the earlier allegation of the bat being swung at another individual earlier that day.
